Helena Chamber Singers

Member Information

Attendance Policy

  • It is expected that singers will attend every scheduled rehearsal.
  • Singers who miss more than three rehearsals before a concert will be placing their membership in the choir in jeopardy, and may be asked not to sing in the upcoming concert.
  • Singers who know that they cannot attend a rehearsal should call the Section Leader in advance of the rehearsal if possible. Because dress rehearsals are critical to the success of each concert, any singer who misses one may not be able to sing in the concert.

Member Responsibilities

Helena Chamber Singers is the equivalent of a professional choral group. This means:

  • Singers will pay a membership fee, pay for music and buy an HCS performance folder.
  • Singers are expected to be seated and ready to sing at the appointed time for each rehearsal.
  • Any conversation that prevents people from hearing the director's comments and instructions is not appropriate.
  • Singers are asked to get any needed music from the librarian, Jan Van Hook, before or after a rehearsal.
  • Singers are expected to bring a pencil to mark scores.
  • Singers will wear the following performance attire:
    • Women: Long-sleeved, floor-length (not more than 2" from the floor in performance shoes) black dress (or combination skirt and blouse, both black) with modest neckline, black hose, black closed-toe shoes and modest jewelry.
    • Men: Black tuxedo, black cummerbund (not optional), white dress shirt, black bow tie, black dress shoes and black socks.
    • Please use discretion in regard to cologne and perfume out of respect for choir members who are allergic to such things.
    • If there are any questions regarding performance attire guidelines, contact a board member or section leader. Members who fail to comply with these guidelines will not be allowed to sing in our concerts.
